Two people brutally murdered by angry mob in Kanchibiya

Two people have been brutally murdered by an angry mob at Mpepo’s Market Square in Kanchibiya district in Muchinga Province on suspicion that they poisoned their friend during a dinking spree over the weekend.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner, Joe Njase who confirmed the incident to ZANIS in Kanchibiya narrates that an angry mob descended on the duo by using stones and fists between 15:00 hours and 16:00 hours on Sunday, on allegation that they had poisoned Francis Chiluba, 45, a resident of Mpepo Village in Kanchibiya district.

Mr Njase explains that after the alleged poisoning, Francis Chiluba was later rushed to Michael Chilufya Sata Hospital in Mpika district, where, he unfortunately died yesterday around 02:00 hours.

He has since identified the lynched victims as Frank Kasolo, 80, and Henry Bwalya, 70, both of Mpepo Village in Kanchibiya district and that their bodies have since been deposited in Mpika District Hospital Mortuary.

Mr Njase says Police have since opened an inquiry into the matter and that anyone found wanting after the investigations will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

However, preliminary investigations on the alleged murders, indicates that the two elderly persons were suspected to be wizards in the community prior to the incidence concerning the death of Chiluba.

Meanwhile, the provincial Police Commissioner has warned of stiffer punishment against individuals fond of taking the law into their own hands.
