EL’s corruption fight is targeted at opponents-Simutanyi

Political analyst Neo Simutanyi has charged that President Edgar Lungu’s fight against corruption is targeted at those who are perceived to be his political opponents and not his allies.

Dr. Simutanyi has cited Roan MP Chishimba Kambwili who he says was fired for harboring presidential ambitions and not on corruption charges as earlier stated.

He says President Lungu has failed to fire Housing and infrastructure development Minister Ronald Chitotela because he believes once he does so, Mr Chitotela may join or form another political party like the case was with Mr Kambwili and former Bahati Member of Parliament Harry Kalaba who are both former cabinet ministers.

Dr. Simutanyi has wondered how the head of state is claiming to be fighting corruption when he has failed to remove Mr. Chitotela from his ministerial position when is facing corruption charges.

He has told QTV News that that the fact that Mr Chitotela is still serving as a cabinet minister is evidence enough that there is no political will to fight corruption in the government.

Dr. Simutanyi states that the reason why President Lungu gave the Anti-Corruption Commission the go ahead to arrest Mr. Chitotela is for him to demonstrate that he is fighting corruption when in fact not.
