Zamtel launches Digital Channel Platform, “Zamsellit”

Zamtel has launched a Digital Channel Platform called “Zamsellit” which will enable its customers to buy and sell talk-time electronically.

Speaking during the launch, Zamtel Chief Executive Officer, Sydney Mupeta says the Digital Channel Platform (DCP) is a key step in ensuring that the company’s business partners and customers receive a more convenient, faster and secure service.

Mr Mupeta points out that the company last year experienced a situation where unauthorized stock found itself on the market.

He says it is against this backdrop that Zamtel has set up a process of coming up with a digitized and more efficient distribution channel which will not only provide a permanent solution to addressing the problem of stock leakages, but will also bring about convenience to all its partners along the distribution value chain.

Mr. Mupeta states that the launch of “Zamsellit” will also eliminate the use of physical scratch cards on the market which is a positive step towards addressing the issue of environmental degradation arising from paper and plastic pollution.

He has since thanked ZCOM, a Zambian owned company who are the software developers of the DCP.

Speaking at the same launch, Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) Director General Patrick Mutimushi says the success of the innovation by Zamtel largely depends on the cultural mindset of the people.

Mr Mutimushi states that consumers and everyone in the distribution value chain should therefore have a role to play in transforming their habits towards digital channels

He has since implored distributors, retailers and consumers in the Digital Distribution channel to embrace paperless transactions in their daily activities and add value to the business.
