Govt has begun drafting SI on media regulation – Kasolo

Government has begun the process of drafting a Statutory Instrument that will create a framework for statutory regulation of the media in the Country.

Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo says this is in anticipation of the media failing to come up with a framework for self regulation in three months.

Mr. Kasolo says his Ministry cannot sit back and expect that the request it has made to the media to come up with a framework for self regulation will happen during the three months ultimatum.

In an exclusive interview with QTV News, Mr. Kasolo says he therefore expects to have a draft of the Statutory Instrument on media regulation by the end of the three months.

Mr. Kasolo however, states that he will consult further with media institutions across the Country before a decision to issue the Statutory Instrument is made.

He says this is with the view to allow the media have an input in the regulatory framework.
