BuyZed counsels govt ahead of AfCFTA ratification

Government has been advised to address the current red tape in the export of Zambian products before ratifying the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

BuyZed Campaign founder Evans Ngoma says his organization has observed that due to red tape the Country has not been able to benefit  fully from the SADC and COMESA FTAs.

Mr. Ngoma says last year’s ban on the export of Zambian honey to South Africa is an example of how the Country has not benefited from these FTAs.

He has told QTV News that this is why it is important that government irons out all challenges being faced in the SADC and COMESA FTAs to enable Zambia benefit from the broader FTA.

And Mr. Ngoma says BuyZed welcomes the ban on the use of certain plastic bags in the Country.

He says the ban is an opportunity for local manufacturers to take up the business of recycling of the permissible plastic carriers.
