Lungu is implicating himself by refusing to fire Chitotela – HH

President Edgar Lungu has been advised to realize he is implicating himself in corruption by refusing to fire Housing and Infrastructure Development Minister Ronald Chitotela.

The opposition UPND wants President Lungu to immediately remove Mr. Chitotela from government in order to allow for fair prosecution and adjudication of the corruption charges leveled against him.

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema says if President Lungu does not fire Mr. Chitotela, the public have to believe that he too is involved in the alleged corruption leveled against his Cabinet Minister.

Mr. Hichilema is of the view that there cannot be any other reason why President Lungu is not dismissing  Mr. Chitotela if he himself is not a beneficiary of the said corruption.

He has told Q-News in a statement that President Lungu is, in this case, demonstrating that the recent arrest of Mr. Chitotela by the Anti-Corruption of Commission (ACC) was a public relations show.

Mr. Hichilema is suspicious that by allowing his Cabinet Minister to be arrested for corruption, the President may have only been hoodwinking the international community and Zambian people.

He states that the UPND cannot however allow a situation where a Minister facing corruption charges continues to fly the pride of the Zambian flag and representing the country.
