Sesheke by-election will go ahead as scheduled- Chimanse

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says the Sesheke Parliamentary By-Election will go on as scheduled despite the reported incidences of violence.

ECZ Public Relations Manager Margaret Chimanse says  the commission is monitoring the developments on the ground, and is encouraging all political parties to comply with campaign timetables to avoid possible clashes.

Ms. Chimanse is also encouraging the police to remain professional and ensure that agreed campaign schedules are adhered to, and are conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.

She has however reminded political parties and their candidates that it will not hesitate to disqualify any offenders who may contravene the electoral process act no. 35 of 2016, if the situation degenerates any further.

Ms. Chimanse has since appealed to the media, particularly social media, on the need to report accurately in order to avoid alarming the general public
