Govt justifies decision to place ZNBC under IBA

Government has justified its decision for the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) to be regulated by the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) like other broadcasting stations.

Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kasolo says government no longer wants to involve itself in correcting mistakes that ZNBC makes in its operations.

Mr. Kasolo says government wants the role that the information and broadcasting services permanent secretary plays in the National Broadcaster to be left in the hands of the IBA.

In an interview with QTV News, Mr. Kasolo says his ministry will therefore make the necessary proposals to amend both the IBA and the ZNBC acts.

He states that once these amendments have been made and passed by parliament, government will only have to deal with the IBA if ZNBC is found wanting.
