Investigate Sesheke vote buying, ECZ and Police urged

FODEP Executive Director Mweenge Chimfwembe

The Third Liberation Movement has challenged the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and the Police to investigate allegations of vote-buying leveled against patriotic front ahead of the Sesheke Parliamentary by-election slated for February 12.

Recently, UPND Secretary General Steven Katuka accused the ruling party of vote buying in the sesheke parliamentary by-election campaign.

Third Liberation Movement President Enock Tonga says these allegations are serious, thus the urgent need to ensure that they are investigated.

Mr. Tonga has also condemned the timing by government to announce the construction of the Inyambo Yeta College of Nursing and Midwifery in Sesheke.

Meanwhile Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) Executive Director, Mweenge Chimfwembe has challenged the Patriotic Front to explain to the nation why they have embarked on infrastructure development in areas where by-election are scheduled to be held.

Mr. Chifwembe says in as much as government has a duty to take development to all the area regardless of the circumstances that are prevailing at a particular time, there is need to explain to the people because it sends a wrong message for government to start taking development to an area where there is an election.

He has told QTV News that there is need for all political parties participating in the sesheke parliamentary by-election and other places to ensure they uphold the electoral code of conduct.
