Govt pleads with pharmacies to stop selling GRZ drugs

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical and Services, Kennedy Malama has cautioned Pharmacists in the country to guard against selling government drugs.

Speaking to Journalists after inspecting both Private and Public pharmacies Dr. Malama has encouraged them to report any person selling government drugs to relevant government wings for further action.

Dr. Malama says private sector can thrive with their own supply chain and procurement without getting commodities from government.

And Dr. Malama has also warned the pharmacies against selling drugs to people who do not have prescriptions as doing so will also leave them liable to prosecution.

Dr. Malama is however happy that the Pharmacists inspected, meet the required standards to operate.

The Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical and Services has called on Zambia Medication Regulation Authority to escalate inspections of both public and private pharmacies in Chipata to ensure they dispense valid drugs.

He has emphasized that increased inspection of pharmacies will help curbing the distribution of expired drugs in the province.

And ZAMRA Director General Bernice Mwale is happy with the stocking and dispensing of medicine by some pharmaceutical retails in Chipata.

Meanwhile Chipata Chemist Proprietor Ismail Suleman says he has put in place measures to ensure that Medicine are secured.
