Retirees stage protest at LASF over benefits

Retirees from ZESCO, Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company and the Lusaka City Council on Tuesday morning stormed the local authority superannuation fund (LASF) offices located on Ben Bella Road in Lusaka demanding payment of their terminal benefits.

The retirees have accused government of paying a blind eye to their welfare.

Speaking to QTV News, the retirees some of whom have stayed for over eight years without receiving their terminal benefits explained that efforts to get the money they worked for has proved to be a challenge owing to what they say is the uncaring attitude of the government.

The retirees have disclosed that over Four Hundred Million Kwacha is owed to them and that government has since 2017 only released about One Hundred and Fifty Million Kwacha.

The retirees who only dispersed after they were advised through their leaders to report to the Ministry of Finance on Monday for a meeting with Minster of Finance Margaret Mwanakatwe, also complained of being underpaid as a result of anomalies in the calculation of their benefits.
