Punish those responsible for Vespers’ death, demands UPND

The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has called for action to be taken against police officers responsible for the death of University of Zambia student Vespers Shimunzhila based on the recommendations of the human rights commission.

UPND Deputy Secretary General Patrick Mucheleka says the death of vespers should not be in vain.

Mr. Mucheleka says the carelessness of police officers led to the death and injury of students on that fateful night.

He has questioned the professionalism of the police officers deployed to UNZA to quell the students’ protest.

Mr Mucheleka states that professional police officers always exercise restraint whenever faced with a situation such as the one that took place at UNZA.

The Human Rights Commission has recommended that criminal charges be brought against police officers involved in the unza students’ protest clampdown which result in the death of one student.
