SADC has now become toxic, observes Changala

Civil rights activist Brebner Changala says he is now convinced that SADC has become toxic to the people of its member states.

Mr. Changala says he has observed that SADC is departing away from the principles upon which it was founded.

He states that the intergovernmental organization is no longer serving the interest of the ordinary citizens in the region.

Mr. Changala says the regional body has instead become a block where elected leaders form a ring fence among themselves to oppress the citizens.

He thinks that this explains why SADC is not coming to the defense of civilians in the region.

Mr. Changala does not think what was recently reported in Zimbabwe were authorities cracked down on unarmed citizens could have taken place if the regional body was proactive.

He is also of the view that had it not departed from its principles, SADC could have equally reprimanded former Congo DR president Joseph Kabila for prolonging his stay in office.

Mr. Changala spoke to QTV News in an interview.
