The Ministry of Home Affairs has warned the opposition Democratic Party (DA) it will face the full force of the law if it continues to engage in public political activities.
Public Relations Officer Nephas Chifuta says the DA cannot conduct any political activities across the Country before the Court of Appeal disposes off the case relating to its registration.
Mr. Chifuta has reminded the DA that the Court of Appeal has issued a stay of execution of the High Court judgment that quashed the decision of the Registrar of Societies to de-register it.
He has told Q-News in a statement that this entails that the decision of the Registrar of Societies has been reinstated pending the full determination of the matter by the Court.
Mr. Chifuta states that the opposition DA must therefore adhere to the stay.
But DA president Harry Kalaba has told QTV News by telephone that the suggestion that his party has been de-registered is not true.
Mr. Kalaba says whoever is making this suggestion is only playing politics.
He states that he however considers such politics a sign that the DA is a strong and formidable political party.
The DA has since announced, in a statement, intentions to commence contempt proceedings against the Ministry of Home Affairs Public Relations Officer for what it has called issuing an alarming statement.
