NGOCC demands that Kanganja takes full responsibility of Vespers’ death

The Non-governmental Gender Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has made a fresh demand for justice over the death of UNZA student Vespers Shimuzhila.

This follows an independent investigation conducted by the Human Rights Commission (HRC) that has confirmed that in October last year Vespers died as a result of suffocation from tear gas.

NGOCC board chairperson Mary Mulenga says her organization also welcomes the recommendation by the HRC that all the police officers behind her death be criminally charged.

In a statement obtained by Q-News Ms. Mulenga says the NGOCC further demands that Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja takes full responsibility of Vespers’ death.

Ms. Mulenga says her organization urges the Police Command to ensure that Vesper’s death works to change the growing unprofessional tendencies within the Police Service.

He states that NGOCC wants immediate pragmatic action taken to refocus the Service to its noble duty of protecting life and property.
