JCTR urges Mining companies to stop blackmailing govt

The Jesuit Center For Theological Reflection is urging government to stand its position and effect the measures that they have proposed regarding the changes to the taxation system in the mining sector.

JCTR Policy Analyst Innocent Ndashe says considering that the prices for minerals has been stable at the international market, the country has not benefited from the mining sector in the country.

recently Kalumbila Copper Mines in Solwezi, North Western Province, notified government of its decision to lay off over 1-thousand miners due to the proposed new mining tax regime.

Mr. Ndashe has wondered why some mining companies are afraid before the measures are not even implemented.

He has however encouraged them to allow government to implement its measures without unnecessary threats coming from mining companies.

Mr. Ndashe has also encouraged mining firms in the country to be open minded as they enter 2019.
