International Plan Zambia worried about teen pregnancies

The International Plan Zambia has bemoaned the upsurge in teen pregnancies in africa.

International Plan Zambia Regional Programme on ending child marriage in East and Southern Africa, Lazarous Mwale says consented efforts must be adopted to address the factors that lead to the pregnancies not only in Zambia but in africa as a whole.

Mr. Mwale has noted the need for the country to start sensitizing members of the public about issues of sexuality with young people at an early stage and ensure that girls understands how they can prevent teenage pregnancy.

Qtv reports that, Mr. Mwale has insisted that teenage pregnancy is an issue facing countries around africa with adverse negative social consequences on young women as well as on national development goals.

recently Chipata District Commissioner Kalunga Zulu  disclosed that more than five thousand girls have been impregnated in the third quarter of 2018 in Chipata District alone in eastern province.

But Mr. Mwale has revealed that his organization is working with other stakeholders in the country to help reduce teenage pregnancy.

Meanwhile Young Women in Action (YWA) Programmes Officer Vivien Chihungu says the record of the 5000 girls who fell pregnant in Chipata is alarming.

Mrs. Chihungu says this has brought a lot of questions among the CSOs who have been doing their level best to fight teenage pregnancies as to where they have been going wrong.

Mrs. Chihungu has noted the urgent need to start training the young people at an early age even as early as grade 5 both in schools and those who are not in school.
