Pardon Derrick Sinjela, President Lungu urged

President Edgar Lungu has been called upon to use his compassion and pardon the jailed veteran Journalist Derrick Sinjela.

President Lungu is being asked to use his prerogative to set free the journalist who is currently serving an eighteen months custodial sentence for the offense of Contempt of Court.

Political researcher Cephas Mukuka says his appeal collides with the festive season, a period he believes is of love and forgiveness.

Dr. Mukuka wants the President to allow Mr. Sinjela spend this period outside the prison walls with his family.

In a statement to Q-News Dr. Mukuka has asked the Head of State to also keep mind that Mr. Sinjela was remorseful and admitted his wrong doing without wasting the Court’s time.

Dr. Mukuka states that he has personally worked with Mr. Sinjela before and has found him to be a jovial and helpful person.

He says if it therefore it pleases him, the Head of State should set free the imprisoned journalist as he is the only one with the constitutional powers to pardon a convict.
