ZANASU to engage Prof LUO over abolished meal allowances

Prof. Nkandu Luo

The Zambia National Students Union (ZANASU) says it is engaging Higher Education Minister Professor Nkandu Luo over a statement attributed to her that government has abolished meal allowances.

ZANASU President Misheck Kakonde has since appealed for calm from University of Zambia and Copperbelt University students as the matter has not been regulated and there is no statutory instrument issued on the abolition of the provision of meal allowances.

Mr. Kakonde says ZANASU and various student unions have opened a fruitful dialogue with the Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HELSB).

He says the Union is committed to engaging with Government, through the head of state, Ministry of Higher Education and other relevant authorities to resolve matters affecting students.

And Kakonde has urged government to always pursue dialogue on any proposed changes in the grants and loan structure to avoid being misunderstood.
