LCC spends over K200,000 to bury 126 unclaimed bodies in 2018

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has buried 126 unclaimed bodies in 2018 which have costed the council over 200 thousand kwacha.

LCC Public Relations Manager, George Sichimba says the latest burying of the bodies which makes it the fourth time this year was conducted on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Chingwere cemetery.

Mr. Sichimba explains that the council buried 19 bodies after the expiry of the 14 days period from the date of notice in accordance with the provisions of section 61, paragraph 41 of the second schedule of the local government act cap 281 of laws of Zambia.

Mr. Sichimba explains that the law provides for 14 days notice within which any members of the general public can claim or identify any of the bodies listed therein.

He has however stated that no one came up to claim any of the bodies at the expiry of the assigned period leading to the burial of all the 19.
