42 yr old Lusaka man commits suicide after being apprehended for assaulting his wife

A 42-year old man of Maloni compound in Lusaka West has committed suicide by throwing himself in the rear tyre of a moving Volve truck at Matero Police station.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has identified the deceased as Elvin Miyanda Mwanza who was arrested for assaulting his 37 year-old wife.

Ms Katongo says the deceased was apprehended from Lusaka’s Avondale area by officers from Simona Mwansa Kapwepwe Police station and was transferred to Matero Police where the report was made.

She narrates that after disembarking from a Police motor vehicle, the suspect threw himself in front of the a rear tyre of a Volvo truck registration number AJE 2866 which was pulling out of Matero Police station driven by Chansa Kalutwa aged 29.

Ms Katongo says the deceased who sustained injuries on the head and the body was taken to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary and that postmortem has since been conducted.

She adds that an inquiry file has been opened and statements have been recorded from the wife of the deceased who was present at the time of incident happened, the driver of the truck,officers and other independent witnesses present.
