Longwe saddened with news of 5,000 girls felling pregnant

Former Non-Governmental Gender Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) Board chairperson Sarah Longwe has noted with sadness that about 5,000 girls fell pregnant in Chipata district in the third quarter of 2018.

Ms. Longwe says if the Ministry of Education and society took the right step such occurrences would not have happened.

Ms. Longwe says there is need for comprehensive sexual education at different levels depending on the age for both girls and boys.

She adds society needs to wake up because the number of teenage girls falling pregnant is a source of concern.

Recently it was revealed more than five thousand girls under the age of 20 fell pregnant in the third quarter of 2018 in Chipata district alone in eastern province.
