The Foundation for Democratic Process has described as timely plans by the electoral commission of Zambia to establish an online voter registration system ahead of the 2021 general election.
FODEP Executive Director Mweenge Chimfwembe notes that implementing an online voter registration system will not be a difficult task for the commission considering that a lot of youths are already exposed to information communication technology (ICT) materials.
Mr Chimfwembe says it is now time the commission began exploring other ways of how best it can use technology to its advantage in the management of the electoral process.
He adds that the ECZ should also consider finding ways of how it will reach out to people who may not have time to register and verify their credentials online.
