Attorney General saddened with low number of trained drafts persons

Attorney General Likando Kalaluka has directed the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE) to work out strategies of raising the profile of the drafting programme so that it can attract national and international students.

And Mr. Kalaluka has bemoaned the low number of trained drafts persons in the country.

Zambia only has 231 trained drafts person.

Mr. Kalaluka says the absence of legislative drafting skills amongst many lawyers has led to ambiguous and unclear instruments which have cost government and the private sector millions of dollars in losses from unnecessary litigation.

In a speech read on his behalf by Former Clerk of the National Assembly Doris Mwiinga, Mr. Kalaluka says the importance of drafting skills among lawyers is not only extremely critical in the development of legislation, but also in Socio-economic development of the country.

Mr. Kalaluka says this is because every sector in the governance structure requires well crafted laws and regulations to facilitate development.
