Govt assures community health workers of their jobs

Government has clarified that no community health worker will lose their employment following the withdrawal of support to the health sector by some stakeholders.

Early this year, the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ) indicated that it will suspend financial support to community health workers at the end of 2018.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in Charge of Administration Dr. Kennedy Malama has disclosed that government has adopted all the three hundred and one community support workers that were recruited by the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ).

Dr. Malama explains that CHAZ has taken up the responsibility of paying salaries for the health workers following the challenges that nongovernmental organizations has been experiencing.

He has further disclosed that with the support of other partners, government is scaling up the issue of community health countryside by increasing the numbers of support staff.

Dr. Malama says government is also training the community workers at Mwachisompola in Chibombo district and Ndola teaching hospital.
