Magande blames Lungu for 2018 govt embezzlement

Former Minister of Finance Ng’andu Magande has charged that President Edgar Lungu’s unguarded public utterances have contributed to increased cases of misappropriation of public funds in 2018.

Mr. Magande states that by reciting the Bemba saying, ‘Uubomba mwi bala alya mwibala’ early this year, President Lungu, in a way, opened the door for mismanagement of public funds.

In an interview by telephone, Mr. Magande has told q-news that this explains why the public accounts committee (PAC) is making glaring revelations about huge sums of public funds being misappropriated.

Mr. Magande notes that some permanent secretaries who are appearing before the public accounts committee are actually failing to account for these missing public funds.

He states that this in itself could be an indication that these controlling officers picked the Bemba saying the President Lungu recited in February this year.

Mr. Magande says the president’s utterance appears to have worked against good governance in the country.
