Housing and Infrastructure Minister Ronald Chitotela has called on the engineers in the country to defend its fascinating works of some of the professionals in the engineering field.

And Mr. Chitotela is impressed with the progress the industry has made over the years but acknowledged that more needs to be done by individual professions and the associations representing engineers.

Speaking when he officiated at the Engineering Institution of Zambia excellence awards, Mr. Chitotela has agreed with president lungu’s concern that the engineering institution of Zambia is not adding value to national development.

He says this is because the institution is failing to provide professional input in key government construction projects.

Mr. Chitotela has encouraged that EIZ to deeply reflect on this issue and agree on ways of addressing these concerns.

He has since requested the executive of the EIZ to meet with his office so that together they can agree on how they can address these concerns.

The housing and infrastructure minister has noted the urgent need to create a dynamic institution that is going to be relevant to the evolving needs of the economy and the Zambian people.

Mr. Chitotela has indicated that government is faced with the urgency to deliver improved and effective engineering products and services to the citizens, usually with limited resources, therefore, it is under pressure to adopt innovative solutions that will reduce expenditure and deliver quality and value for money.
