Enhance the implementation of policies on deforestation-IAPRI

The Indaba Agricultural Policy Research Institute (IAPRI) has noted the need for government to enhance the implementation of policies aimed at addressing deforestation in the country.

IAPRI research fellow ,Hambulo Ngoma tells q news that the country currently has the necessary policy frameworks that can help address deforestation but there is no enough action on the ground to implement the policies.

Dr Ngoma has suggested that government can consider setting up designated charcoal production sights so as to address the challenge of trees being cut at any place and burnt in the same areas to make charcoal.

He has also noted the need for climate smart agriculture practices to be encouraged.

He states that considering that charcoal production has for some been the main contributor to deforestation, government should put up measures that will allow the production of charcoal in a sustainable manner.
