Zambia Police has no role in enjoyment of rights -Changala

The Zambia Police has been cautioned to be mindful it has no mandate to disrupt Democracy in Zambia.

Civil rights activist Brebner Changala is reminding the Police to always remember that the law under which it was established, no police officer is allowed to use his or her uniform to become a vandal.

Mr. Changala wants the Zambia Police to realize that Zambia is a democracy and not a Police State.

He tells QTV News that the Zambia Police must, in this case, comprehend that it has no role in the enjoyment of democratic rights of any citizen.

Mr. Changala states that he therefore finds the continued arrests of Members of Parliament who are exercising their right to freedom of assembly to be unacceptable.

He says this is especially that the Speaker of National Assembly has already ruled that MPs do not need permits from the Police to assemble in their constituencies.

Mr. Changala states that the Zambia Police is thus misconducting itself to continue arresting MPs that exercise their right to assemble in their constituencies without a permit.

He says the Police must stop abusing their uniforms to perpetuate such lawless.
