Political Parties’ Bill has passed internal legislation – Lubinda

The Political Parties’ Bill has already passed through internal legislation at the Ministry of Justice.

Minister of Justice Given Lubinda says the Bill was scheduled to go through internal legislation at Cabinet last week but could not be considered owing to the extended sittings of Parliament.

Mr. Lubinda has explained that extended sittings of Parliament both in the Morning and in the afternoon has made it difficult for the Cabinet internal legislation meeting to take place.

In an interview Mr. Lubinda has disclosed to QTV News the Cabinet legislation meeting will therefore only be held after Parliament has adjourned.

Mr. Lubinda states that this also means that the Political Parties’ Bill will only be presented for First Reading during the next sitting of Parliament.

The Minister of Justice has also disclosed that the Access to Information Bill is being considered alongside other 12 pieces of legislation.

He states that there are other 12 Acts of Parliament that have a bearing on the Access to Information Bill and vice versa.

Mr. Lubinda states that because of this, government through his Ministry will need quite some time in considering the Bill.

He however notes that the Bill has already gone through internal legislation at Ministry level and now awaits to be consider at Cabinet level.
