Finance Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe says government is focused on building a nation that depends on its own resources for national development.
Mrs. Mwanakatwe says the country has to enhance its revenue collection for it to be self reliant.
Speaking when she officiated at the official opening of the Zambia Revenue Authority East Park Mall Service Center, Mrs. Mwanakatwe has commended ZRA for reforming and modernizing its operations.
She says how revenue is collected and used has a great bearing on governance.
She has noted that the mobilization of domestic revenue can be realized if the means of collecting revenue are brought closer to the people and businesses that seek to pay their tax obligations.
The Minister has urged the ZRA commissioner general and his management team to proactively engage stakeholders so as to help the country cultivate and sustain a positive culture of paying taxes among citizens.
Speaking earlier, ZRA Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda is optimistic that the opening and operationalisation of service centers in different locations of the county will assist to decongest ZRA offices and bring about improved service delivery to taxpayers.
Mr. Chanda states that the authority plans to open as many service centers as possible in an effort to enhance compliance amongst citizens.
He says East Park Mall service center brings the total number of such centers to 5 in Lusaka.
