Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya has noted the importance of investing in radiation protection in the Country.
Dr Chilufya says the Radiation Protection authority needs to be capacitated and supported for it to effectively deliver its services of ensuring for protection of the users of radiation.
He has assured the radiation protection authority of government’s assurance to provide resources to enable it provide resources required to enhance its regulatory functions.
In a speech read on his behalf by ministry permanent secretary for administration Dr Kennedy Malama during the official opening of the three days annual awareness conference in radiation protection, Dr Chilufya acknowledged the great risk that can be caused by nuclear if not properly handled.
Dr. Chilufya is however happy that a number of educational programmes are being developed and enhanced to provide training in nuclear science and technology to help promote nuclear radiation safety.
He has since expressed optimistic that the three days conference will not discuss measures aimed at addressing the existing challenges and optimize the opportunities in nuclear and radiation safety.
