Repeal laws for presidential retirement house – Kabimba

Wynter Kabimba

Rainbow Party Secretary General, Wynter Kabimba has advised President Edgar Lungu to take a step further and advocate for the repeal of the law that compels government to build a house for a retired President.

Mr. Kabimba says President Lungu should not simply end at saying that he will not have a retirement house built for him, but ensure a complete repeal of the law which he has described as an obnoxious piece of legislation.

He says the issue is not about President Lungu’s feelings, but whether it is sustainable to continue building houses for retired presidents or not.

Mr. Kabimba has wondered why Zambia has maintained this law when countries whose economies are doing well do not have such a law because they know it is unsustainable.

He states that despite Zambians did not objecting to the legislation compelling government to build retirement homes for former president at the time Republican President Fredrick Chiluba signed it into law, they can do so now.

The Rainbow Party leader says people should admit that a mistake was made that needs to be corrected by repealing the law in question.
