Minister of Higher Education Nkandu Luo says the confusion that involved the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) and the Higher Education Authority (HEA) on the conduct of medical programmes at the Copperbelt University was as a result of miscommunication between the two institutions.
Early this month, the Higher Education Authority overruled the Health Professions Council of Zambia’s suspension of three medical programmes at CBU for failure to meet set standards in accordance with the health profession Act.
Professor Luo has however, told Parliament that her ministry is in the process of engaging the Ministry of justice to seek help on setting operation boundaries for the two institutions.
She has also stated that her Ministry will work with the HPCZ to ensure that quality standards are maintained in institutions providing medical training programmes.
