K6.1 billion was released for govt operations in October

The Treasury released a total of K6.1 billion to finance various operations of the government during the month of October 2018.

Out of the K6.1 billion, K2.4 billion went towards personal emoluments,K1.5 billion towards debt service, K1.1 billion towards grants and other payments, while K1.1 billion was spent on other key programmes.

Margaret MwanakatweIn a statement to Q-News, Minister of Finance Margaret Mwanakatwe says the K2.4 billion for personal emoluments went towards timely payment of salaries to various civil servants.

Mrs. Mwanakatwe says out of the K1.1 billion released for grants, Universities received K80.1 million, Student Loans and Scholarships K99.9 million , while schools received K60.8 million.

She states that in order to enable implementation of planned activities, the Skills Development Fund was funded K20 million.

Mrs. Mwanakatwe adds that K344.9 million was also released to Grant Aided Institutions for their operations while various Ministries received K92million.

The Finance Minister says in order to restock drugs and medical supplies in hospitals, the Treasury released K150 million to the Ministry of Health.
