Zambia commemorates 100 years since end of WW1

Zambia has today joined the rest of the world in commemorating 100 years since the end of the first world war.

The World War One was one of the deadliest conflicts in the history of the human race, in which over 16 million people died.

The total number of both civilian and military casualties in this war is estimated at around 37 million people.

And in marking the commemoration of a 100 years since the world war, President Edgar Lungu led service chiefs and foreign dignitaries in laying wreaths at the cenotaph in Lusaka.

President Lungu who arrived at the cenotaph around 10:40 was received by Speaker Of The National Assembly And Several Cabinet Ministers.

And in a sermon Deputy Head of Chaplains For the Zambia Police service Chief Inspector Reverend Francis Kaoma noted the need for peace to be upheld in the country and across the world.

Reverend Kaoma says commemoration reminds the nation that there was a peace treaty before ending the world wars one and two and therefore the need for the same peace to be upheld even now.
