xenophobic attacks targeted at Chinese is politically motivated – Wina

INONGE WINAVice President Inonge Wina says the current xenophobic attacks targeted at Chinese nationals in Zambia are politically motivated.

Mrs. Wina says the xenophobic attacks are a result of the public utterances political leaders are making to incite people against the Chinese.

Speaking during the Vice President’s Question Time in Parliament, Mrs. Wina alleged that the intention of this incitement is to ensure that investors do not bring their investments to Zambia.

She states that this orchestrated campaign is also meant to discourage Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) to impact the Country’s economy.

The Vice President says it is therefore people who do not mean well for Zambia who are in this case chasing away investment especially investment from China.

Mrs. Wina suspects that it is these same Zambians who are on the other hand investing heavily in foreign countries using offshore transactions.

The Vice President was responding to questions posed by Msanzala Member of Parliament Peter Daka and Leader of the opposition Jack Mwiimbu.
