Freedom Fighter Mama Kankasa Put To Rest

MAMA KANKASAPresident Edgar Lungu has described veteran freedom fighter Mama Chibesa Kankasa’s death as a tragic loss to the nation.

President Lungu says the enormity of her contributions does not correspond with her rather near anonymous place she sought in her entire political life.

Speaking at the funeral service for the late freedom fighter and member of the central committee of UNIP Mama Chibesa Kankasa, President Lungu this is the legendary legacy she bequeaths everyone in the political arena, that political office is an opportunity to serve.

He says late Mama Kankasa’s active political involvement in UNIP as chairperson for the National Women’s League and Member of the Central Committee under the guidance of Dr. Kenneth Kaunda is littered with many unequalled records.

The head of state has however encouraged Zambians to draw lessons from her life which she sacrificed and dedicated to the country’s political dispensation.

And daughter of the late Mama Kankasa, Chipepo has described her mother as loving and also a dedicated servant of the lord.

United Church of Zambia general secretary says rev dr peggy kabonde says mama kankasa was a very generous woman who was very active in the things of god and was a woman of strong faith.

Meanwhile UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has encouraged Zambians to remember Mama Kankasa among them being the struggle credentials she fought for independence selflessly.

Mama Kankasa died in South Africa on Monday, 29th October 2018 at the age of 82 after she was evacuated to South Africa on October 6th 2018 for specialist treatment by government.

She was admitted to the intensive care unit at the arwyp medical centre in Johannesburg until her demise.
