BuyZed calls for stakeholders’ meeting on FRA’s failure to meet 2018 target

Government has been urged to seriously consider calling for a stakeholders’ meeting on the failure by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to meet its 2018 maize purchase target.

Evans NgomaBuyZed Campaign founder, Evans Ngoma says if it is true that the FRA has failed to meet its target of 500,000 metric tons of maize because farmers are holding on to the grain, there is need to engage in dialogue.

Mr. Ngoma says BuyZed is ready to provide a platform where government and farmers’ representatives can meet and find an amicable solution to their standoff.

He has told QTV News that his organization’s worry is that if farmers continue holding to their maize, there is a likelihood that the grain may go to waste as some of them may not know how to preserve it.

Mr. Ngoma states that it will be therefore in the best interest of the Country that a way is found that will see farmers offload all the maize they are holding on to for sale to the FRA.
