Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo has disclosed that a conglomerate is planning to set up a fossil fuel power generation plant in the province.

Mr. Kasolo says the conglomerate will work with a a local company called Chipata Power Generation Limited in setting up a plant.

In an interview with Q- News, Mr. Kasolo says once the power generation plant has been set up, it will initially produce up to 300 megawatts of electricity in the first phase.

He says the company is also anticipating to start producing a further 300 megawatts in the second phase to bring the total capacity of the generation plant to 600 megawatts.
