Runway at Kasama airport may not be ready before Provincial Investment Expo- Mundubile

Brian MundubileNorthern Province Minister Brian Mundubile says the new runway being constructed at Kasama airport may not be ready for use before Provincial Investment Expo next month.

Mr. Mundubile says consultants have informed his administration that in view of the early onset of rains, the contractor working on the runway will need clear days to complete the construction works.

In an interview with QTV news, Mr. Mundubile says the clear days have to be on a continuous basis.

Mr. Mundubile says this means that the available alternative for tourists that will be flying into Kasama for the expo will be the temporal runway that is currently being used.

He says the other alternative is the Mbala airport which has already been commercialized.

Mr. Mundubile says hangar which was being transformed into a terminal building at the airport is expected to be handed over for use this week.

He adds that a contractor is also working on an access road to the Mbala airport as a way of moving away from accessing the aerodrome from the nearby military camp.
