Govt rules out any possible adjustment to maize price

Government has ruled out any possible adjustment to the price of maize per 50 kg bag at which the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) is buying the grain.

Michael KatamboMinister of Agriculture Michael Katambo says the price at the FRA is buying maize is within the government’s envelope as approved in the 2018 national budget yellow book.

Mr. Katambo says to this effect his Ministry earlier had meetings with all stakeholders before pegging the price of a 50kg bag of maize at K75.

In an interview with Q-News Mr. Katambo says there is therefore no way that government will adjust the already set price of maize at the FRA is buying the grain.

Mr. Katambo says this is especially that the crop marketing season is also coming to an end.

He states that people in the Country should however not worry that the 500, 000 tons FRA purchase target may not be met because the Country does in fact have enough grain.
