Zambia producing in excess of 500 tons of honey per year

Fisheries and Livestock Minister, Kampamba Chewe says Zambia is producing in excess of 500 metric tons of honey per year.

Mrs. Chewe says her Ministry is therefore aggressively expanding market access for the honey.

KAMPAMBA MULENGAShe says while farmers are producing enough honey, they have not had maximum access to quality markets.

Mrs. Chewe states that market penetration will have a multiplier effect that will result in economic empowerment among Zambians especially in rural areas with emphasis on women and youth.

The Minister said this on arrival in India, where she is scheduled to attend the International Agro Trade and Technology Fair.

And Zambia’s High Commissioner to India Judith Kapijimpanga says India has a lot to offer in terms of markets, mechanization as well as research and development.

Mrs. Kapijimpanga says the visit by the minister will help in pushing for an MoU with India on agricultural mechanization.

This is contained in a statement made available by First Secretary Press and Tourism at the Zambian Mission in New Delhi, India, Bangwe Naviley.
