Some University of Zambia students have distanced themselves from reports attributed the Zambia National Students Union (ZANASU) alleging that the students are opposed to the newly introduced guilds style of leadership at the institution.
Speaking at a media briefing students representative Jonathan Phiri says Unza students does not have a union in place, they are not affiliated to ZANASU hence all statements from latter purported to be representing the Unza students should be ignored.
Mr. Phiri has clarified that the students fully welcome guilds leadership as it fully responds to the general well being of students at the university.
He has allayed fears that the guilds style leadership at the university are a way government is suing to kill students representation adding that the idea is all encompassing.
Mr. Phiri was in the committee formulating the constitution has disclosed that following this development, elections the new university of Zambia students union have been scheduled for November, 9th 2018 where new leaders will be elected.
