Mini 40 bed space hospital to be constructed at Mukobeko

IMG-20181016-WA0060-4Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has announced government’s intentions to construct a 40 bed capacity mini hospitals at Mukobeko Maximum Correctional facility in Kabwe Central Province.

Speaking when he toured the Correction facility and Kabwe General Hospital yesterday Dr Chilufya said the Ministry of Health will work with other line ministries to deliver health services in correctional facilities.

Dr Chilufya said Government through his ministry will address infrastructure, improve the referral systems and many other health services that includes the supply chain and medicines and drugs in correctional facilities starting with Mukobeko.

He has since announced that his ministry will soon provide an ambulance to the correctional facility and second some medical personnel to attend to the inmates in an effort to avert high numbers of referrals from the correctional facilities to other health institutions.

The minister says his ministry will work with the command at the correctional facility and the Ministry of Home Affairs to second a minimum of 2 doctors and 10 nurses to the facility.

He has stated that Universal Health Coverage is imperative and the PF government under the leadership of President Edgar lungu will leave no one behind including those serving sentences in correctional facilities.

Dr Chilufya has since noted the tremendous progress the correctional health services team at Mukobeko has recorded and commended them for introducing routine testing and treatment for HIV and TB.
