2019 national budget not accommodative to famers -ZNFU

znfuThe Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) has observed that the 2019 proposed national budget is not correlating with the seventh national development theme of accelerating development efforts towards the vision 2030 without leaving anyone behind.

ZNFU Media and Public Relations Manager, Kelvin Kaleyi says the 2019 national budget has not accommodated farmers in line with the theme for the Seventh National Development Plan.

Mr. Kaleyi tells QTV News that the reduction in the budgetary allocation to the Farmer Input Support Program in the 2019 national budget is a clear indication that farmers have been given little attention.

He states that while the allocation to the FISP program has seen a reduction, the cost of the farming is increasing a development he says is unfair to farmers.

Mr. Kaleyi has wondered how the vision to make agriculture the main stay of the economy will ever be realised in this case.
