Govt still committed to crop diversification – Katambo

Minister of Agriculture Michael Katambo says government is still determined to promote crop diversification in the Country.

Mr. Katambo says this is why government has brought on board a variety crop seeds for farmers being supported under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).

He has told Q-News that farmers who are using e-voucher cards have the option to choose either maize or soya beans or sorghum or ground nuts or even millet.

Mr. Katambo says FISP is therefore one of the vehicles government is using to encourage vulnerable but viable small scale farmers to engage in crop diversification.

He says government is targeting high value crops such as soya beans, sorghum, millet and ground nuts because they actually fetch at least twice more the price of maize.
