Mwanakatwe to engage chambers of mine over new mining tax system

Finance Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe has disclosed that government will reconstitute and appoint tax policy review committee who will be dealing with technical issues related to tax implementation matters raised by the public.

Mrs. Mwanakatwe says her ministry remains open to dialogue with mining companies that are willing to amicably discuss the transition to the new mining tax regime.

She has told qtv news in a statement made available by Ministry of Finance Public Relations Officer Chileshe Kandeta that the ministry is ready to also discuss the implementation of the sales tax and other fiscal and economic affairs, and future business cooperation matters.

Mrs. Mwanakatwe adds that her ministry has taken note of the public statement made by the Zambia chamber of mines and that she has also received letters from some stakeholders, and the Zambia chamber of mines, seeking clarification on the new tax regime.

Mrs. Mwanakatwe has since advised that consultations on sales tax policy implementation will be wide and extensive before commencement in April 2019.
