Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Democracy and Governance Specialist Isaac Mwanza has demanded that the police command institutes an inquiry into the manner police officers handled rioting UNZA students leading to the death of one student.
Mr. Mwanza says the inquiry should among other things ascertain the mode of crowd dispensing mechanisms employed by the police officers.
He says YALI is demanding for a time-bound inquiry which should have clearly defined parameters to find new innovative strategies that do not put innocent human beings in harm’s way, but ensures law and order.
Mr. Mwanza has also urged President Edgar Lungu to crack the weep at the Ministry of Higher Education for the delay in releasing the allowances for the students at the highest learning institution.
He says people who have been entrusted to manage these public institutions and ministries must not become too comfortable, but ensure that they deliver and protect the zambian people in any circumstance.
