Revise social cash transfer, Banda advises govt

Government has been advised to consider revising the social cash transfer programme in such a way that beneficiaries become self reliant at a certain stage.

vlcsnap-6311-01-31-14h00m42s296Development Activist Canisius Banda says the number of beneficiaries under the social cash transfer should be reducing instead of increasing.

Dr Banda is suggesting that government comes up with modalities of creating entrepreneurial technical capacity that will enable beneficiaries to grow whatever they receive under the social cash transfer scheme.

He has further advised government to fund all consumptive programmes such as the social cash transfer by itself and not rely on donors.

Dr. Banda tells Q-News that by relying on donors, the dependence base for the social cash transfer programme has grown over a period of time.
